About VanUS
Clinician-led ultrasound services designed to support NHS capacity, quality and service resilience.
Vanguard Ultrasound Services Limited (VanUS) is a clinician-led ultrasound insourcing provider. We support NHS organisations with additional diagnostic ultrasound capacity delivered on-site, aligned to local pathways and reporting arrangements, with governance and accountability built in.
Who we are
VanUS is a specialist ultrasound provider focused on supporting NHS imaging services with additional capacity. We are built by ultrasound professionals who understand the day-to-day realities of delivery in radiology and imaging services—waiting list pressure, workforce constraints, reporting demands, patient flow, and the need for consistent quality. We work alongside local teams and deliver to agreed pathways, escalation routes and reporting processes.
Our purpose
Our purpose is simple: help NHS services add ultrasound capacity without compromising safety, quality or governance. We aim to be practical to work with, clear on accountability, and aligned to what matters in NHS delivery—patient experience, reporting quality, and reliable mobilisation.
Supporting capacity. Strengthening service resilience. Delivering ultrasound with governance and accountability.
Why VanUS was established
Ultrasound demand remains high across the NHS, and many departments face sustained pressure across waiting lists, staffing and reporting. VanUS was established to provide an insourcing model that strengthens capacity while respecting local governance, reporting arrangements and clinical escalation pathways. Our guiding principle is that additional capacity should be safe, auditable and professionally accountable.
Our service model
VanUS provides insourced ultrasound sessions delivered within your NHS site, to an agreed scope and service framework. We can support: additional ultrasound sessions to increase capacity, waiting list recovery programmes, weekend or extended-hours delivery (where agreed), targeted pathway support (where agreed), short-term workforce gap support, mobilisation planning aligned to local reporting and escalation routes. VanUS works best when delivery is planned collaboratively with radiology, operations, governance and contract leads.
Clinician-led by design
Being clinician-led means clinical quality and patient safety shape how we plan and deliver services—from scope and escalation through to audit, feedback and continuous improvement. Our clinical foundation supports consistent decision-making on reporting quality, urgent findings escalation and safe working within local pathways.
NHS-focused support
VanUS is designed to support NHS services and complement local leadership. We do not displace Trust governance; we work within it. We recognise that NHS-facing capacity support requires more than scanning ability. It also requires safe systems of work, clear communication, incident awareness, appropriate escalation and a commitment to quality improvement.
Governance-led delivery
Governance is built into how we operate. This includes: clinical oversight and quality review, workforce assurance (including registration, role suitability and competency), clear escalation routes, including urgent findings, incident reporting, learning and improvement, information governance controls aligned to NHS expectations. For more detail, see: Governance & Quality.
Regulatory and professional awareness
Our governance and operating processes are informed by relevant UK regulatory, professional and information governance expectations, appropriate to the service scope. These may include: CQC Fundamental Standards (where applicable), HCPC standards (where applicable to registered roles), UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, Common Law Duty of Confidentiality, NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit expectations, NHS Records Management Code of Practice. References to external standards describe the frameworks that inform our approach. They do not imply external endorsement unless explicitly stated.
CQC and regulated activity
VanUS is preparing for CQC registration where this is required for the regulated activities it provides. We will only deliver regulated activity once the appropriate registration and governance arrangements are in place.
